Chavez Of Venezuela
The King Of The South II

t appears that one of the reasons the emergence of Hugo Chavez as the perfect candidate for the latest manifestation of the King of the South was so surprising is the fact that he comes from Latin America. While we were looking for a leader to emerge from the various Oil sheikhdoms, many failed to realize that Venezuela is one of the primary oil producers in the world - and a leading member of OPEC.

This is quite important, for apart from the massive oil revenues being generated for Hugo Chavez through Venezuela's huge oil reserves, it would be almost impossible for him, and the odd coalition of Southern states he is associated with, to stand against the industrial power base of the United States - the King of the North.

The fact is, although he characterizes himself as a Catholic, Chavez is closely allied with Iran, Syria, Libya, Cuba, and has even set in motion plans to open an embassy in North Korea. This list reads like a rogue's gallery of countries that are violently opposed to American interests.

The Next War Between The North And The South

Several years ago, our ministry radio operation (Christianmedianetwork.com) was privileged to produce an interview with a Cuban political dissident that had been held, and tortured, in a prison run by Chavez' mentor Fidel Castro. Dr. Eduardo Prida plainly stated that he was aware of Cuban biological weapons work that he claimed was later secreted away to Venezuela.

Although Hugo Chavez is a populist who has artfully presented himself to the world as a reasonable political figure, the company he keeps is indicative of his true agenda. Indeed, he has quite recently been using his soaring oil revenues to build a significant military presence in service of his left wing government.

At this writing, we have not been able to conclude with certainty the Armageddon Script will pick up with Chavez at the same point that Hussein left off - at Daniel 11:28, where the King of the North is triumphant over the Southern king (in this case, Saddam Hussein). The reader will recall that just after Saddam was defeated, the text tells us the Northerner will return to his own land:

"Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land" (Daniel 11:28).

In the next verse, the Northern King, clearly still George Bush, will once again make a military move towards the South, but this time the results will be different from the two prior excursions against the South:

"At the time appointed, he shall return, and come toward the South; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter" (Daniel 11:29).

The possibility exists that the emergence of Chavez as the King of the South  coincided with what I call a prophetic stutter step, and it looks as though we saw a recursion to an earlier phase, in which the Script went all the way back to verse 25 & 26.

In those verses, the Northern King plans to move "a very great and mighty army" against the South, but the Southern King is betrayed by "they that feed of the portion of his meat" (Daniel 11:26). In other words, the process of sequential recapitulation occurred several years ago, and a repetition of the events of Daniel 25-28 were then repeated with Venezuela.

Operation Balboa

In 2002, as the Northern powers became more and more alarmed at Chavez' radical agenda, a plan was developed to invade Venezuela. Spearheaded by NATO member Spain with American backing, the invasion was called "Operation Balboa." Speaking at an interview with the Bolivarian News Agency, Chavez stated:

"We discovered through intelligence work a military exercise that NATO has of an invasion against Venezuela, and we are preparing ourselves for that invasion" --(http://billingsgazette.com)

The military plan to invade Venezuela was said to involve "simultaneous assaults by air, sea and land, involving troops from the United States and NATO countries." Chavez announced that he was preparing Venezuelan military units to repulse this invasion of his country. The plans for Operation Balboa were developed in May 2001, and were concealed under the cover of joint American/NATO exercises. These "exercises" were directed by Spanish military officers, and they simulated the invasion of Venezuela.

Under a banner story from the Associated Press entitled "Venezuela prepared to repel U.S. invasion if necessary," (AP, September 3, 2005) the South American leader warned of the dire consequences of such a military excursion. Having just purchased 100,000 Kalashnikov assault weapons from Russia, he told the media if Bush invades Venezuela to get their oil,

"Not only this country would be burned up, but a good part of this continent; they shouldn't make any mistake about it, we are preparing to repel an invasion" (Associated Press, September 3, 2005).

These events are yet another vivid fulfillment of Daniel 11:25:

"And he [the Northern King] shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him" (Daniel 11:25).

But the Armageddon Script tells us this battle never actually occurs, for it continues on and says of the King of the South  "but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him" (Daniel 11:25).

Thus, Hugo Chavez was aware of this plan, and in another rather stunning example of the stutter step principle, we saw this aspect of the Script step back to Daniel 11:25. What happened next is positively amazing. In Daniel, the very next verse speaks of the internal betrayal of the King of the South.

After describing the posturing and deployment of military forces, we learn the battle does not occur because

"they forecast devices against him. Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain" (Daniel 11:26).

Shortly after the war games based on Operation Balboa were completed, with the backing of the United States Navy, a coup was engineered against Chavez, and Venezuelan military officers ("they that feed of the portion of his meat") overthrew the Leftist.

Apparently the political turmoil came to a head during a tumultuous civilian protest against Chavez that occurred in April 2002. Predictably, there are conflicting reports of what actually happened, but the anti-Chavez forces in the military claim that government snipers were firing on the civilians, whereas Chavez claimed the shooters were agent provocateurs. In any event, military officers, led by one Pedro Carmona Estanga, intervened in the chaotic conditions, ousted Chavez, and proclaimed a coup. In the process, many were killed.

As the Script says, "his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain" (Daniel 11:26).
