David Wegener

avid Wegener is a Christian prophecy figure that has established himself with a series of speaking engagements. He initially made a name for himself through a relatively high profile tour with the Prophecy Club.

Having appreciated his seeming sincerity, over the last few years we have attempted to help people become aware of David Wegener's ministry. At the time of our written essay on the Prophecy Club, we also attempted to speak with David to get his perspective on the excesses at the prophecy speaker's organization. Even though I had personally met David at a speaking engagement in Southern California, and had extended the hand of fellowship to him, I couldn't get him to return or even receive my repeated efforts at contacting him.

A former associate at Christian Media, Craig Portwood, had a similar experience. Prior to his involvement at the network, he had also met Wegener and liked his perspective. On more than one occasion, I heard Craig on the air actively promoting David's videos and even giving out his phone number in an uncompensated commercial endorsement. Craig tried several times to contact David, but couldn't get him to respond in any way.

Eventually, another host on the network named Rick Walters had David as a guest on the radio. In late June (or early July 2002) David was brought on the air on the Christian Media Network and warmly received by Walters. For an entire hour on international shortwave, he was allowed to promote a forthcoming event at which several Christian Media listeners attended - evidently as a result of hearing Wegener on our radio network.

We were then told by credible friends of the ministry that after a particular speaking event this summer, Wegener went out to a late meal with several key individuals and contacts from one of his speaking events. At that informal meeting, Wegener coolly informed all present that I am a false prophet. He went on to detail his perspective that I am not to be trusted.

At no time did Mr. Wegener ever come to me with a Matthew 18 cautionary note or inquiry. There has never been any reproof or attempt at correction of any kind. At no time did he correspond, or even let me know he held these things against me. Instead, he chose to utilize the hand of friendship and fellowship that was extended from Christian Media to benefit his ministry. He then sought to 'bite the hand that feeds him' so to speak in an entirely unscriptural manner.

If I were not familiar with the tactic, perhaps I would have just brushed it off - but this has been a recurring theme for several years. When we uncover two-faced hypocrites that use other Christians as long as it it benefits them even as they secretly and privately slander those same Christians we stand up and bear witness to what has occured. Obviously, such hypocrisy is a fact of life in this time of rampant apostasy.

Furthermore, after causing a considerable amount of dissension with his highly visible break with the Prophecy Club, we are now informed that David Wegener has again resumed a commercial relationship with that organization and is planning on another tour with them.

At this time, we've been unable to receive a response from Mr. Wegener for his scripturally inconsistent behavior. I've been unable to issue a personal rebuke or offer any kind private reproof as the man has refused interaction with me. Rick Walters, the host that had him on the air also desires to have a few words with Mr. Wegener. While I would have preferred to restore the relationship through a scriptural and spiritually driven correction of his apparent misdeeds, Mr. Wegener only seems to desire contact with the media when it benefits his immediate agenda.

[Editor's Note: There is another ministry figure based in the East with the exact same name as the subject of this essay. The David Wegener that is the subject of this essay is California based, is best known for his videos, and had a highly visible association as a speaker with the Prophecy Club. The other individual has an organization called Wegener Media based in South Carolina that does ministry work overseas, and is involved in computers. The Carolina based David Wegener has no association of any kind with the California minister that is being scrutinized in this article. CMR regrets any difficulties this essay may have caused the Eastern Mr. Wegener.]
